Naming Council reserves and facilities

Do you know someone who has made an outstanding contribution to the Casey community? Or have a meaningful name that reflects our local history, culture or identity?

As part of Council's 2026-2029 plan to name and register council reserves and community buildings, we invite everyone to suggest names for future reserves and centres. Your ideas can help honour local people, remember our history, and build Casey's identity for the future.

The naming of Council-owned places follows the Guidelines for Naming Council-Owned Features and Geographic Names Victoria Naming Rules for Places in Victoria.

To recognise and respect the deep and ongoing connection of Casey's Traditional Owners to Country, Council prioritises Aboriginal names. We also give priority to names that honour people who have made an important contribution to the Casey community. When doing this, we consider gender to help make sure a diverse range of people are recognised.

What happens after I submit a name?

• Geographic Names Victoria (GNV) will confirm receipt of your name suggestion. Please allow up to four weeks to receive this confirmation.
• Your suggested name will then be assessed against Victoria’s naming rules.
• A member from GNV may reach out to you to obtain further information about your submission.
• If your name meets the requirements, GNV will send your suggestion and details to Council. Council will then assess the name against its own naming guidelines and notify you of the outcome.
• Names that meet the requirements will be added to Council’s register of potential names for future parks, reserves and community facilities.
• When a new park, reserve or community facility is ready to be named, suitable names from the register may be considered. Where required, Council will also seek community feedback before making a final decision.
• The final name is then submitted to Geographic Names Victoria for registration.
