Councillor Gift Declaration Register
The Councillor Gift Declaration Register is an essential tool that promotes transparency and accountability within local government. It records all gifts declared by councillors at Casey in the course of their official duties. The register helps ensure councillors' actions remain impartial and their integrity is maintained.
What Constitutes a Gift?
A gift can be defined as anything of value that is received by a councillor. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Monetary gifts
- Hospitality, such as meals or accommodation
- Tickets to events
- Promotional items
- Discounts or special offers not available to the general public
Gifts can come from various sources, including individuals, organisations, businesses, and even other government bodies. The current limit on gifts and hospitality is capped at $50. Anything above $50 must be declared. All monetary gifts must be declared and declined irrespective of value.
