Casey Young Writers Festival

Casey Young Writers Festival features a series of FREE online workshops. The workshops provide an opportunity for young writers aged 10 - 17 in Casey to:

  • learn new skills
  • practice different styles of writing
  • be inspired to create through poetry, spoken word, hip hop music, storytelling or creative writing.

Writers workshops 

ABC Takeover Melbourne – Storytelling

Wednesday 10 June and 17 June 4.00pm - 5.30 pm
Join an ABC producer to learn all about storytelling and how you can apply these techniques to your own writing. You will also learn about creating your story for a radio or TV format and some takeaway tips on how to create a great entry for the Takeover Melbourne Competition.

Motley – Rap & Hip Hop

Monday 15 June 4.00pm - 5.30 pm
Motley started DJing at age 16 and is frequently called upon by tour promoters to open up for artists such as Nas, The Wu-Tang Clan, Chris Brown and Beyoncé! In this workshop, participants are invited to share their ideas and stories from which they ultimately learn more about themselves, their peers and the art form itself. 

Thabani Tshuma – Spoken Word

Tuesday 16 June 4.00pm - 5.30 pm
Thabani Tshuma is Slamalamadingdong’s 2019 Grand Slam champion and winner of all major awards at the 2019 Melbourne Spoken Word Prize. In this workshop, Thabani will work with participants to create a piece of Spoken Word poetry.

Adam Wallace – Creative Writing

Thursday 18 June 4.00 - 5.30 pm
Adam Wallace is a Number 1 New York Times and Amazon Bestselling author who grew up in Beaconsfield and Berwick. In this workshop, Adam will provide tips and tricks to participants to start their own creative writing journey.

The Casey Teenage School Holiday Program

The Casey Teenage School Holiday Program is for young people aged 10 - 17 years. The program offers fun, age-appropriate activities at affordable prices. Each school holiday period the program runs for approximately two weeks (Monday to Fridays).

Transportation to and from the program is available at pick up and drop off points across Casey. These include Cranbourne, Narre Warren, Hampton Park, Endeavour Hills and Doveton.

Program and booking details are released one month before the school holiday period.

FReeZA Committee – Spectrum Entertainment

Spectrum Entertainment allows young people (12-25 years) to help deliver Casey’s FReeZA events. All events are for young people living within the City of Casey to enjoy. Events are drug, alcohol and smoke-free in supervised and safe venues.
