After your baby is born and you're discharged from the hospital, our qualified maternal and child health (MCH) nurse will contact you to arrange a home visit. The home visit is your first of 10 free MCH appointments with your baby, from birth to 3.5 years.
These appointments are also called the 10 Key Ages and Stages visits, and align with 10 key stages in your baby's development.
All family members are welcome at MCH appointments.
Note: Video recording and photography are not allowed at MCH appointments.

What to expect at your first visit
Your family and MCH nurse will:
- discuss how you're feeling
- discuss what to expect from the 10 visits, including consent and privacy
- start recording information in your 'green book'
- weigh your baby and do a physical check
- discuss safe sleeping and check your baby's sleep area
- discuss where you can find more information and resources, like the MCH app
- book your second visit (2 weeks) at one of our MCH centres.
