Independently managed kindergartens

What are independently managed kindergartens?

External providers, not the Council, run some sessional kindergartens located in the City of Casey. These providers look after the daily running of the kindergarten and may be:

• Early Years Managers
• Independent organisations
• Committees of Management.

They oversee staffing, compliance, governance and planning.

Their key responsibilities include:  

• employing staff
• the day-to-day operations of the kindergarten  
• compliance with regulatory and funding requirements of the Department of Education  
• financial management, strategic planning for and implementing key government initiatives  
• contributing to early years planning.

City of Casey's role

The City of Casey manages the Central Registration and Enrolment Scheme (CRES), including:

• processing expressions of interest and registrations
• offering funded sessional kindergarten places
• sharing yours and your child's details with the external provider after you accept a place.

After you accept a place

Your information will go to the external provider who will contact you with the next steps.

The provider will send ongoing updates directly, not the City of Casey.

Contacting the external provider

Families must contact the external provider for information about:

• timetables and session times
• kindergarten tours
• enrolment and orientation sessions
• support for your child starting kindergarten.
