Book a Maternal and Child Health appointment

The Maternal and Child Health (MCH) service is a free health service available to all families living in the City of Casey. Appointments are conducted between 8.30 am and 4.30 pm, with Saturday sessions occasionally available between 10 am and 2 pm.

10 Key Age and Stage appointments

The MCH offers 10 scheduled appointments for children and their families from birth to school age. These appointments include a home visit after birth from an MCH nurse, followed by centre visits at 2, 4, and 8 weeks, 4, 8, 12, and 18 months, and 2- and 3.5-year consultations.

Families meet with registered nurses who have further training in midwifery and maternal and child health, who provide information, guidance and support on the following topics and many more:

  • Child health and development
  • Maternal and family health
  • Infant feeding, including breastfeeding and transition to solids
  • Community information and local supports
  • Safety and injury prevention
  • Sleep and settling
  • Toilet training
  • Infant and child behaviour
  • Child and parent relationships

Maternal and Child Health (MCH) nurses are mandatory reporters under Victorian law. This means they must report to Child Protection if, in the course of their work, they reasonably believe a child may be in need of protection from significant harm.

This responsibility applies to information shared during appointments, telephone calls and telehealth consultations. Where possible, MCH nurses will discuss concerns and reporting requirements with families before making a report.
