Register your child anytime after birth
You can register your child for 4-year-old kindergarten any time after they are born.
You must submit your child's registration before 30 April in the year before they are due to attend kindergarten. If you submit your registration after this date, there may be a delay in offering your child a kindergarten place.
Choose 5 kindergartens
We strongly recommend you choose 5 kindergartens. Because of high demand, we cannot always guarantee you will get your most preferred kindergarten. If you only provide 1 choice and it is not available, your child may have to attend kindergarten late or may miss out on a place at that kindergarten.
Visit a kindergarten before you choose
Choosing 5 preferred kindergartens can be difficult. Feel free to visit a few kindergartens before making a choice. Please contact the kindergarten directly to make an appointment before your visit.
The Victorian Department of Education and Training has a list of things to look out for during your kindergarten visit.
You must pay a non-refundable $20 registration fee for each child. You do not need to pay this fee if:
- your family identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
- your application was received directly from a secondary service
