Casey’s climate is changing, and in the future we expect more heatwaves, floods, storms and bushfires. But how prepared are you?
Join in and play ‘The Adaptation Game’ to find out.

The City of Casey has created a board game based on scientific data, local knowledge, and real council-based programs.
In this game, you will be provided with maps that show hypothetical floods, heatwaves and bushfires. Each round, players face challenges that they must overcome using adaptations made individually and as a community.
As a group, you will talk through these real-world scenarios and decide how you will prepare and protect your home, family, community, and environment.
TAG is a cooperative game where all the players work together, so you don’t have to be ‘good at games’. You will play with three other people, and a facilitator will guide you through the game. You need to come along and bring your imagination!
Frequently asked questions
- How long does a game take?
The game can be played in two lengths:
- 1.5 Hours – Covers two rounds of heatwaves and storms, generally no break required
- 3-4 Hours – Covers three rounds of heatwaves, storms and bushfires, a break will be provided, and more time is provided for deeper discussions and strategic play.
- How can I organise a game for my friends and me?
If you and at least three others would like to play a game, email us, and we can book in a time that suits. All you need is a room with a table, such as a library, community facility, school, hall, or other public space. We cannot play in a private space such as a home.
We run games for community, sporting and religious groups, local businesses, industry groups or any other organised groups in Casey.
- What if it’s just me who wants to play?
If you want to play, you can join other residents by contacting the following community facilities to find out when they next play TAG.
- Cranbourne West Community Hub
- Lynbrook Community Centre
- Autumn Place Community Hub
- Orana Community Place
- Can people outside Casey play?
Yes, you can, during play, everyone places a token on the map where they live. They consider scenarios that will affect you. The facilitator will ask non-Casey residents to place their token in an area similar to where they live.
- Who should play?
This game is suited to people aged 16+ who are interested in learning more about climate risks and the actions they can take to be better prepared.
- Why should I play TAG?
TAG provides a unique opportunity to consider scenarios in which you will be affected by a severe weather event. Thinking through what resources you do or don’t have helps you prepare before a risk occurs in real life. Communities that are well prepared for risks are less likely to be impacted by the shock and to recover more quickly than those that do nothing.
- Can we eat food while playing?
Yes, you are welcome to arrange your own snacks or food to share. Breaks for meals can be provided if you are playing a long game.
- Do I have to pay to play?
No, there is no cost to playing this game.
