Celebrating Casey community volunteers

Volunteers recognition 2026

As part of National Volunteers Week last week, the City of Casey held its annual Volunteer Recognition event to celebrate long-serving volunteers from Council’s Meals and Transport programs.

This year’s recipients were:

  • Margaret Sansom (45 years of service)
  • Diana Heath (40 years of service)
  • Janette Pike (15 years of service)
  • David Talbot (10 years of service)
  • Lorraine Macredie (10 years of service)

City of Casey Mayor, Cr Stefan Koomen said volunteers were the lifeblood of the community and played a vital role in supporting the community by helping to deliver essential services such as meals and community transport.

“We have around 60 dedicated volunteers who support some of the most vulnerable people in Casey, including older residents, carers, and those experiencing social isolation. Their contribution is not just appreciated — it is essential,” Cr Koomen said.

“And the rewards go both ways, as many of our volunteers have shared the positive difference it makes to their own lives to give back and connect with their community.

“Without them, these programs would not be able to operate, and many older Casey residents would not receive the support they need to live independently at home, remain connected to the community and access vital services and support.”

This year’s National Volunteers Week theme, Your Year to Volunteer, focused on both recognising current volunteers and encouraging new community members to get involved. Find out more about becoming a volunteer with the City of Casey at casey.vic.gov.au/volunteering
