Playground Renewal Program 2024/25

Playground Renewal Program 2024/25

The City of Casey's Playground Strategy guides the provision and management of playground facilities to meet the present and future needs of Casey residents.

This means that the location, scale and number of playgrounds changes every year. Our renewal program this year will have a focus on the established areas of the municipality.

The RORP Story

Below is a story from Galloway Drive Narre Warren and installed in a Primary school in Colombo Sri Lanka last year.

It is written from the perspective of Rotary.

The playground project began over coffee at a Bendigo Bank Directors Conference in Adelaide. I met Dr. Eshantha Ariyadasa, who was working on his PhD in Sri Lankan Social Services. He shared his remarkable journey from architecture to sports education and his dedication to supporting homeless girls in Sri Lanka.

Learning of his need for IT support for the girls, I offered Rotary's help. We decided to send computers and more in a container to Sri Lanka. The container also included refurbished sewing machines and bicycles, and plans for a community library.

During a call, Dr. Eshantha expressed a desire for an outdoor playground like the ones in Australia. With investigations, we found that old playgrounds were often replaced and still usable. Working with Greater Geelong Council, we disassembled a playground in Leopold and shipped it to Sri Lanka.

Inspired by this success, the Rotary Club of Flemington initiated the SISL Project (Slide into Sri Lanka) in partnership with Rotary District 3220. Past District Governor Senake Amerasinghe led the project and secured a tax-free import agreement with the government. Our club developed plans for each playground, assigning unique codes to every part for safe reinstallation.

With these efforts, we continue to repurpose playgrounds from Australia to benefit communities in Sri Lanka.
