The City of Casey has a longstanding commitment to inclusion and the prevention of gender-based violence. In recognition of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, Council and Connected Libraries are proud to present a special In Conversation event with Rosie Batty AO on Tuesday 1 December.
Rosie, the 2015 Australian of the Year, will share her deeply personal experience of family and domestic violence, and how she has transformed unimaginable loss into powerful advocacy. Her work has helped reshape Australia's national conversation on preventing family violence.
Connected Libraries Chief Executive Officer Beth Luppino said, “We are honoured to welcome Rosie Batty to Casey and provide our community with the opportunity to hear her story and her powerful message about respect, safety and preventing family violence.”
City of Casey Mayor Cr Michelle Crowther said, "Creating a safer community requires all of us to take responsibility maybe change to is high priority of our community and our Councillor group. This event is an opportunity to learn, reflect and discuss how we can better support those affected by family violence.”
The free event will be held at the Bunjil Place Function Centre from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm. Bookings are now open. Visit https://events.connectedlibraries.org.au/event?id=246240

To be held on Sunday 6 December from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, the walk will follow a route around the lake at Casey Fields, starting and ending at the Village Green.
Cr Crowther encouraged community members to come together for the community walk and vigil.
“This is an opportunity to stand in solidarity with those impacted by gender-based violence and sends a clear message that violence has no place in our community,” she said.
“By walking together, we show our commitment to building a safer, more respectful and inclusive Casey for everyone."
