The City of Casey recognised the invaluable contribution of local sporting volunteers at a special breakfast event held at Casey Fields last week.
Hosted by Mayor Cr Stefan Koomen in partnership with Melbourne City Football Club, sporting volunteers from across Casey attended the breakfast, where they were thanked for the vital role, they play in creating environments where our community can connect through sport.
Guests were treated to a talk from Melbourne City Football Club’s Head of Community, Sunil Menon, and former Socceroos captain and MCFC A-League Men’s Head Coach, Aurelio Vidmar, who shared insights into leadership, teamwork and the important role volunteers play in supporting grassroots sport.
Cr Koomen said sporting volunteers are the backbone of local clubs and deserve to be recognised for the impactful work that they do.
“Every week across Casey, thousands of volunteers step up to coach teams, run canteens, mark grounds, manage committees, organise competitions and support players of all ages," he said.
“Their dedication creates opportunities for people to stay active, build friendships and be part of their local community. This breakfast was our opportunity to say thank you and acknowledge the enormous contribution these volunteers make to community sport every single week.”
To round out the morning, guests were treated to a behind-the scenes tour of the Melbourne City Football Club facilities at Casey Fields.
