Feedback open on proposed land purchase to complete Eumemmerring Creek trail

The City of Casey is inviting community feedback on a proposal to purchase land in Narre Warren North to help complete the long planned Frog Hollow to Lysterfield Park shared trail.

At the June 2026 Council Meeting, Councillors resolved to begin community consultation on the proposed acquisition of part of the property at 191-195 Belgrave-Hallam Road. The proposal focuses on securing the northern portion of the property, including land along Eumemmerring Creek needed to deliver a missing 2.2 kilometre section of the trail near Frog Hollow Reserve.

The Frog Hollow to Lysterfield Park trail is a long standing vision, linking Doveton, Eumemmerring and Narre Warren North through to Lysterfield Park. This site is the final privately owned parcel along the corridor, and securing it would provide greater certainty for the future delivery of the trail connection.

City of Casey Mayor Cr Stefan Koomen said Council could see potential community benefit in completing the missing link, but no decisions had been made.

“This land plays an important role in the broader trail corridor and securing it would help provide confidence in progressing this section into the future. The trail has the potential to improve local connections and create a continuous link through to Lysterfield Park,” Cr Koomen said.

“At the same time, this is an important decision and we want to hear directly from our community before considering any next steps.”

The opportunity has arisen following an approach from the landowner, who has indicated a willingness to sell, having been aware of Council’s long standing interest in the property through earlier acquisition discussions about 10 years ago.

If progressed, the project would support safer off road connections, encourage walking, running and cycling, and enhance access to one of Victoria’s most visited regional parks.

Council has worked towards this vision for more than 20 years, progressively acquiring land along the creek corridor. Securing this parcel would complete the acquisition phase, with any future design and construction subject to separate funding and approvals.

The current proposal is limited to the trail connection only, with no additional uses planned. Any future changes would be subject to further community engagement.

The community can have their say on the proposal until 16 July 2026 on Casey Conversations.

A report will be presented to Council at a future meeting outlining community feedback and recommending next steps.
