The City of Casey is inviting the community to share their views on its draft Affordable Housing Policy, which will guide how Council supports more social and affordable housing across the municipality.
Mayor Cr Stefan Koomen said affordable housing is a growing concern for many locals, and Council has a role to play in supporting social and affordable housing through its advocacy efforts, planning and partnerships with other levels of government and industry.
“This policy is about making sure everyone has access to a safe and accessible place to live. It sets out clear ways Council can support social and affordable housing, including what types of homes are needed, who they are for, and where they should be located,” he said.
The new policy will replace Casey’s previous Affordable Housing Strategy, and provide clearer direction for Council decisions, partnerships and advocacy, with a strong focus on increasing both the supply and quality of social and affordable housing.
“We want to hear directly from our community,” Cr Koomen said. “That includes residents who are feeling the pressure of rising housing costs, as well as local housing providers and homelessness services who support people every day.
“Your feedback will help shape Council’s future priorities and actions so we can better respond to the housing needs of our growing community.”
Feedback received during the consultation period will help refine the draft policy which is expected to be presented to Council for endorsement in June.
Consultation on the draft Affordable Housing Policy closes on 3 May. For more information or to have your say, visit Council’s Casey Conversations website: https://conversations.casey.vic.gov.au/affordablehousing26
