The City of Casey is seeking feedback on proposed names for a new Clyde North community centre and a much-loved Berwick park.
The community centres is currently being built in Sovereign Avenue, Clyde North and the name Dharrang Balit was suggested by the Bunurong Land Council. The name means `Strong or Mighty Tree’ in the language of the traditional landowners.
Local Councillor Anthony Walter encouraged local residents to take this opportunity to provide feedback on the name for their new centre.
“The traditional elders felt this name acknowledged the area’s connection to Country as well as the role the future community centre would have in fostering connection between children, parents and wider community, much like the roots of a tree,” Cr Walter said.
“We are now inviting the local community to have their say.”
In Berwick, locals already refer to the playground in Minta Estate as `Fantasy Park’, due to the timber castle with its turrets and banners that is central to the play space.
“The fantasy theme was suggested by the local community during consultation led by the developer, Stockland, who funded the park alongside Variety – the Children’s Charity,” Cr Walter said.
“Before we apply to Geographic Names Victoria to officially name the park, we are inviting the community to provide their feedback.”
