Renovated RACE welcomes visitors back

While the doors have been closed at Casey RACE, Council has been taking advantage of the quiet time to complete a raft of improvement works right across the facility ready for last week’s reopening.

With restrictions still in place on the numbers of people who can visit the facility, the warm water pool has been opened first along with the health club (gym) and the 50m pool is on track to open on Monday 16 November. Other areas are scheduled to reopen over coming weeks.

As part of the $5 million upgrade of Casey RACE, retiling work has been completed on the 50-metre pool, warm water pool and leisure pool and splash park.

The stairs and balustrade leading to the slide tower have been replaced and renovations to the spa, steam and sauna area are nearing completion.

The heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system has been upgraded throughout the entire facility, including the installation of 16 new fans to replace the one large fan in the pool hall, which will allow more fresh air to circulate and create significant energy savings for the facility.

Painting has also been completed in the main pool hall, health club and office areas.

Many of these works, including the re-tiling of the 50-metre pool were brought forward to take advantage of the enforced closure of the facility due to the COVID-19 pandemic, thereby reducing the need for further disruptions or closures in future.

A major upgrade at Casey ARC has also been brought forward to the 2020/21 financial year. This $3.5 million project will include a replacement of the roof, upgrade of the solar panels and building a wall between the aquatics pool hall and entrance areas to enable 24/7 gym access to the Health Club in future.

Casey’s outdoor pool, Doveton Pool in the Park, is scheduled to open as usual for the summer season on 1 December 2020.

Casey’s Chair of Administrators Noelene Duff PSM said Council staff and contractors have been working hard over the past few months, taking advantage of the time the facility has been closed to get these important projects completed at Casey RACE.

“We know it has been hard for our community and staff to have this important community facility closed for so long, but we are thrilled to be able to slowly welcome our community back,” Ms Duff said.

“The final parts of the Casey RACE upgrade are on schedule to be completed very soon, and as restrictions continue to ease, we are looking forward to opening up the remaining parts of the centre and Doveton Pool in the Park for the summer season.”
