Planning application on exhibition – school expansion on Pearcedale Road, Cranbourne South

The City of Casey is aware there is strong community interest in a planning permit application currently on public exhibition for the expansion of an existing school at 271–275 Pearcedale Road, Cranbourne South.

The application (PA2604388) has been lodged with the Victorian Government’s Department of Transport and Planning (DTP), which is responsible for assessing the proposal and managing the public exhibition. This means Council is not the decision maker.

The proposal includes new buildings and works, vegetation removal, and Stage 1 of a masterplan to expand the existing school (Australian Christian College Casey) from its previously approved capacity of 125 students to a proposed 1,500 students.

The application is on public exhibition on the DTP website, and the community can make submissions directly to the DTP.

What is Council’s role in this application?

Council is not the decision maker for this application.

However, we can review the proposal and provide a submission to DTP on matters within our expertise, such as traffic, infrastructure, environmental impacts and local planning considerations.

At this stage, Council has not formed a formal position. Council is currently reviewing the application and will prepare a submission through the statutory process.

Why did Council assess the original permit but not this one?

Council issued the current planning permit for the school with 125 student capacity in 2016.
This new application is being assessed by the State Government because, under Victorian planning rules, the Minister for Planning is the decision maker for larger non-government school developments.

How can I make a submission?

Submissions must be made directly to the DTP. You can email your feedback to development.assessment@transport.vic.gov.au and include PA2604388 in the subject line.

The planning application can be viewed on the DTP website
