Help shape arts and culture in Casey

As a member of Casey’s Arts and Cultural Advisory Committee, local resident Sohail Yamin said he’s relished the opportunity to work with like-minded people and help shape arts and cultural programs and services in our city.

Now others who have a passion and interest in the development of arts and culture in Casey can do the same, with nominations now open to join the next cohort of the committee from 2019-2021.

Nominations are invited from people who live, work or are part of an arts organisation in Casey and have an interest in the ongoing development of arts and culture.

This is an opportunity to have input into key Council policies that affect arts and culture, keep Council informed of the artistic and cultural needs of the community and help to enhance and develop the arts in our city.

Sohail, who is a semi-professional visual artist involved with local groups and events, said he’s enjoyed his experience on the Arts and Cultural Advisory Committee and the input he was able to have.

“The committee has given me an opportunity to meet and work with like-minded people and help in shaping Council’s arts and cultural program and services so that they are and remain inclusive and in tune with the community expectations,” he said.

“As committee member, it has been a privilege to be consulted and contribute in shaping Casey’s arts and cultural strategy for the next four years.

“To develop effective and far reaching programs, Council need an insight to community needs and aspirations. Committees like the arts and cultural committee fulfil this important role; they not only help shape the policies and programs that Council offers but more importantly provide valuable feedback on the effectiveness of its programs, what works and how it can be improved further.”

Sohail encouraged other people interested in arts and culture to get involved.

“There is always room for improvement, so if you are passionate about arts and culture and want to contribute towards improving and enhancing Council arts and cultural related programs and services, then join the Casey Arts and Cultural Advisory Committee,” he said.

Committee meetings are held on a Monday evening, on a quarterly basis.

Nominations to join the 2019-2021 Arts and Cultural Advisory Committee are open until Sunday 21 April 2019.
