Grices and Soldiers intersection upgrade gets the green light

construction works digging stones aside a road

Works to install new traffic lights at the intersection of Grices Road and Soldiers Road in Clyde North will begin in mid-October 2022, with construction expected to be completed by April 2023.

The essential construction will also reform the north-west section of Soldiers Road, which will no longer provide access to Grices Road and offer local access only.

Upgrading this intersection is also a key element of strategic plans for the fast-growing region. The Minta Farm Precinct Structure Plan enables Bells Road (a planned north-south arterial road) to replace Soldiers Road and ultimately connect through the Minta estate to the recently completed O’Shea Road and Monash Freeway Beaconsfield interchange.

The upgrade of this intersection will occur at the same time as the construction of Bells Road through to O’Shea Road, which does not impact the local road network. When all of these works are complete, the upgraded intersection will provide direct access to O’Shea Road and the Monash Freeway.

During construction, the intersection will be closed to through traffic in all directions to allow the works to be completed more efficiently and in a safe manner. Sign-posted detours will be in place along local roads which are designed to accommodate a higher capacity of traffic.

Please note that the works have been scheduled to overlap with drier weather and as many school holidays as possible to minimise disruption to motorists.

Once the construction project is complete, the intersection will:

  • be more efficient for motorists by accommodating a higher flow of traffic
  • be safer for both motorists and pedestrians
  • enable Soldiers Road to ultimately become Bells Road, a planned north-south arterial road, that will ultimately connect through to the O’Shea Road and Monash Freeway Beaconsfield interchange, and
  • help to ease congestion on Berwick-Cranbourne Road and Clyde Road.
