Organisations that work to empower communities to reduce crime are invited to apply to the City of Casey for grants of up to $30,000.
Community advisory panel, the Casey Action Group, is allocating grant funds through the Casey Empowering Communities Project. The funding will support grassroots initiatives that take an innovative approach to addressing local issues impacting crime and perceptions of safety. Not-for-profit and incorporated organisations or community groups are invited to apply for the grants, which are funded by the Victorian Government’s two-year Empowering Communities initiative as part of the Building Safer Communities Program.
The aim is to support projects that:
- strengthen community connections
- foster inclusion and equity
- celebrate diversity and multiculturalism
- support local neighbourhood initiatives which reduce crime and enhance people’s perceptions of safety.
By strengthening community connection, identity and safety, the Casey Empowering Communities Project aims to contribute to a long-term vision of reduction in crime and family violence. This initial round of funding provides organisations with an opportunity to explore, with their unique communities, strategies which will meet the specific needs of Casey’s diverse community. Providers can trial a project which is grounded in evidence but incorporates innovation and tests new approaches which involve community members in the project design.
Projects funded in the first round are required to be delivered between November 2022 and April 2023. Round one will be followed by a second round of funding in 2023.
