Bunjil Place have a special offer for women of colour living in Casey interested in exploring the world of stand-up comedy, through an exciting new program - Brown Women Comedy Workshops.
Delivered by the Australian South Asian Centre (ASAC), Brown Women Comedy Workshops is an eight-week course that gives participants the chance to learn from experienced comedy professionals across seven hands-on workshop sessions, before taking to the stage in a live showcase performance.
As part of Council’s support for inclusive opportunities in the community, Casey residents can access the program at the heavily discounted price of $200.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Stefan Koomen said the workshops are a fantastic opportunity for residents to develop new skills, build confidence and connect with others in a supportive environment.
“If you ever thought about a career in comedy or just want to push yourself to try something new, this program is for you. This is a unique chance for women in our community to learn from the best and step outside their comfort zone. We’re proud to support this program and help to make it more accessible for Casey residents through a significantly reduced local rate," he said.
The program covers joke writing, storytelling, comedic structure, improvisation, stage presence and managing nerves. Throughout the workshops, participants are supported through script coaching, peer feedback and practical performance experience.
The course will conclude with Brown Women Comedy: Up and Comers on Saturday 12 September, where participants will perform their original stand-up sets in front of a live audience.
The workshops are open to women of colour aged 18 years and over, with no previous experience required. Places are limited, so book now at https://www.bunjilplace.com.au/events/brown-women-comedy-workshops
