Dear Wall of Global Friendships contributor ,
I am writing to inform you that Council has made the decision to securely house all the Wall of Global Friendships plaques in the Civic Memorabilia Collection. This will ensure that no plaque is damaged or stolen from our park and open spaces, and that they are preserved as a collection for future generations.
The Civic Memorabilia Collection is of social, historical and cultural significance to the City of Casey, and is a valuable part of the story of Local Government in Victoria. The Collection consists of approximately 800 moveable objects acquired by Council and its former administrations from the 1970s to the present day. Each object in the Collection has been carefully catalogued online.
You will see on this page of the Collection Catalogue, a beautiful framed photograph showing the opening of the Casey Wall of Global Friendships in July 2009.
The entire collection of Wall of Global Friendships plaques from its inception will be given its own separate category in the Collection Catalogue and have a description underneath.
Once the cataloguing is complete, the Global Friendships page on Council’s website will direct people to the online catalogue. That way the plaques will be enjoyed by many residents to come, including your community groups.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to helping design a suitable home for the plaques.
Finally, I would like to thank the Parkar family and honour the late Mr Saleh Parkar OAM, who was instrumental in establishing such a special legacy for residents of the City of Casey. If you would like further information, please phone me on 9705 5200 or send me an email at rcregan@casey.vic.gov.au
Yours faithfully
