Council Elections 2024

elections

Next year the City of Casey will return to elected Councillors when local Council Elections take place across Victoria in October 2024.

Casey has been governed by a Panel of Administrators for the past few years since the dismissal of all Casey Councillors in February 2020 by the State Government.

Over the next 12 months, Council will undertake a range of measures and support the efforts of the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) to ensure a successful transition back to elected officials for the community and our organisation.

Key dates:

  • October – December 2023: VEC Electoral Structure Review of Casey
  • November 2023 – March 2024: City of Casey ‘Role of Council’ Candidate Information Sessions
  • June – September 2024: Council Election candidate nomination process through VEC
  • October 2024: Council Election (exact date to be confirmed)
  • October 2024: New City of Casey Councillors inducted

Role of Council Candidate Information Sessions

Now is the time to start thinking about whether you might run for Council.

Councillors are a crucial part of our democratic society and have an important part to play in serving and representing the interests of their community.

The key aspects of a Councillor’s role include participating in the decision-making of Council, representing the interests of the municipality and participating in strategic planning activities.

To support community members who might be considering running for Council, the City of Casey will be running a number of ‘Role of Council’ Candidate Information Sessions over the coming months.

The sessions are designed to give community leaders and residents the chance to find out more about the diverse range of functions and services local government provides, the role of Councillors and to provide the resources required for potential candidates for the 2024 Local Government Elections.
