Explore and connect with nature in your backyard and share your observations via the iNaturalist app as part of the City of Casey and Greater Dandenong’s Backyard Biodiversity Blitz competition!
All you need to do is sign up to the iNaturalist app and register for the Backyard Biodiversity Blitz event. Then you are ready to snap photos of species in your backyard and share them with the iNaturalist community!
The Casey community member who registers the most observations will win a $50 Anaconda voucher and a pack of fantastic biodiversity identification guidebooks to help you identify more plants and animals. Runners up will also receive a prize.
By registering your observation and findings you are helping our community get a better understanding of what species call Casey home. You will be amazed at how many creatures you can find in your own backyard – check out this video introducing ways to spot biodiversity in your backyard.
To help get you started we are hosting a range of FREE online workshops throughout September:
- Wednesday 16 September, Identifying Frogs: Get to know your local amphibian species.
- Thursday 24 September, Identifying birds: Learn to identify local birds and find out about the habitats you might find them in.
- Thursday 8 October, Identifying Backyard Biodiversity: In this session, you will learn about the plants, animals and bugs that live in your backyard.
