The City of Casey has officially opened the Autumn Place Community Hub – a new and improved integrated family and community facility in the heart of Doveton.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Amanda Stapledon was joined by State Member for Dandenong Gabrielle Williams MP to officially open the facility on Saturday 25 May 2019 at a community celebration.
Council undertook the $5.27 million project to revitalise and expand the former kindergarten and Maternal and Child Health centre at Autumn Place and deliver a new park and playground right next door.
The centre is home to a redeveloped kindergarten with two rooms and outdoor play spaces, two Maternal and Child Health (MCH) consulting rooms and a new large, multipurpose community room with adjoining kitchen and courtyard.
The new park features a playground, barbeque area with shelter, picnic space, seating, improved lighting and landscaping.
Cr Stapledon said Council was thrilled to celebrate the official opening of this project, which was jointly funded by the State Government with $3.6 million through the Growing Suburbs Fund, and Council funding the remaining $1.67 million.
“We marked the official opening with a free community event on Saturday and it was great to see local residents join us for the celebrations and check out their new community hub,” she said.
“Council is proud to have delivered this great facility in the heart of Doveton to provide the community with a space to meet, learn, play, socialise and connect.
“Thank you to the State Government for their contribution towards this project, to ensure we could get on with delivering it for our residents.”
River Gum Ward Councillors Wayne Smith BJ JP and Damien Rosario said they were proud of what had been achieved at Autumn Place.
“Since the adoption of the Autumn Place Masterplan in 2016, Council has been bringing to life the short-term priorities to rejuvenate this popular precinct and it’s great to see this latest project completed and officially opened,” Cr Smith said.
“Our established suburbs like Doveton deserve access to quality infrastructure and community spaces, so it’s wonderful too see this new and improved facility now available for residents to take full advantage of,” Cr Rosario said.
Autumn Place Community Hub is located at 29 Autumn Place, Doveton.
Along with offering kindergarten and MCH consultations, the centre also hosts programs, events and activities for residents and has spaces available to hire. To find out more visit the Autumn Place Community Hub page on Council’s website or call the centre on 9705 5200.
