What you will Learn
In this short course you will learn how to mould, sculpt and work with clay Starting with some pieces to learn the various techniques of clay work you will move on to designing and creating some unique pieces of pottery. There will be the opportunity to use a wheel and to learn the basics of kiln firing. The finished pottery will be coloured and glazed using various methods and you will be encouraged to experiment by adding glass and metals to your finished pieces. At the end of the course, you will have a good understanding of different clay and their uses and a great collection of ceramics.
About your Teacher
Ana St Clair has been teaching art for over 25 years. For many years she ran a multi award-winning ceramic experience in Europe before opening Paint a Pot in Australia, an innovative, hands on ceramic studio.
She studied Jewellery making in Glasgow, Scotland before travelling to South America to work with local Andean jewellers learning their unique methods of metal working and learning to cut and set stones and hems. Before leaving she was commissioned to make a piece for the President of Chile.
She worked for many years as a corporate jeweller and teacher before moving from metal to clay and opening the first ceramic experience in 2000. She rapidly grew her company to 19 studios were working with ceramics and teaching clay techniques became her great passion.
She enjoys incoporating metals and glass into her work and say that eery time the kiln is opened it is like Christmas!
