City of Casey encourages residents to be more sustainable, and in the Green Events calendar there are a wide range of workshops to suit different interests, ages and timetables.

- Vertical Gardening for Small Spaces
Date: Thursday 17 August 2017 10.00 am
Come along and see our vertical garden and learn how to design and maintain your own in a small space. We will cover planting flowers, herbs, veg and fruit options and soil irrigation management. Session runs for two hours from 10.00 am - 12.00 pm
- Op Shop Tour of Casey
Date: Saturday 26 August 2017 9.00 am
Come along on a bus trip with other op shop fans and discover new op shops, as well as amazing bargains. Bus leaves City of Casey Civic Centre at 9.00 am and arrives back approx. 4.00 pm.
- Setting up a vegetable garden
Date: Saturday 26 August 2017 10.00 am
Covering designing your vegetable garden, improving your soil, planting for the season, growing from seed, managing pest and diseases, and harvesting and seed saving. Session runs for two hours from 10.00 am - 12.00 pm.
Waste and Recycling community information night
Date: Monday 28 August 6.30 pm - 8.00 pm (with optional question time afterwards).
Ever wondered what happens to your rubbish, recycling and hard waste in Casey? What goes on once the truck has collected your bin? Come along to this free and fun session to understand how recycling works, where your green waste goes, what happens to rubbish and what parts of your hard waste are recycled. Prizes and giveaways on the night.
- Raising Green Kids
Date: Thursday 7 September 2017 6.30 pm
Discussion on how to reduce the environmental and hip-pocket impact of having babies and children, and ways to encourage your children to be greener too. Session runs from 6.30 pm - 8.00 pm. Light refreshments provided.
- Declutter your life
Date: Saturday 16 September 2017 10.00 am
Work through key rooms in the home. Learn how to identify treasures, and environmental options for disposal of unwanted/unused options. Session runs for two hours from 10.00 am - 12.00 pm.
- Story of Stuff movie night
Date: Monday 9 October 2017 6.00 pm
Come and enjoy some short animated movies, with discussion to follow about the impact of the 'stuff' we buy, and how we can be greener by buying less and living more. Event runs for 2.5 hours from 6.00 pm - 8.30 pm. Popcorn and refreshments provided.
- Love Food, Hate Waste
Date: Wednesday 18 October 2017 12.30 pm
Discover how to get the most out of your food in this cooking class with a difference. We will share our best leftover recipes, tips for selecting and storing food so that it tastes better and lasts longer and teach you other handy skills for how to eat well while saving time and money!
- Bird Walk & Talk
Date: Sunday 22 October 2017 4.00 pm
Western Port is a haven for many species of birds, a number of them are international travellers. We'll see how many different species we can find and have a sticky-beak as they go about their daily activities. Event runs for two hours from 4.00 pm - 6.00 pm.
- Compost Correctly Workshop
Date: Saturday 28 October 2017 9.00 am
Learn how to set up and maintain a compost bin or worm farm at home, includes troubleshooting tips.
- Follow Your Waste Tour
Date: Monday 13 November 2017 9.00 am
Shorter day tour to fit in with school drop-offs and pick-ups. Tour will visit the closed landfill in Narre Warren to see power generation from landfill gas, REPLAS in Carrum Downs to see soft plastic recycling, and SUEZ landfill in Hampton Park to see landfill construction. Lunch and refreshments provided.
- National Recycling Week Celebration Night
Date: Wednesday 15 November 2017 6.00 pm
Join us for a celebration of all things recycling. There will be local children's recycled art displays, activities, guest speakers and door prizes on the night. Event runs for two hours from 6.00 pm - 8.00 pm.
- Bee Keeping (two part workshop)
Date: Saturday 11 & 18 November 9.30 am - 12.30 pm
Part one - theory. Part two - hands on, practical experience with a live hive.
