Drains and nature strips

Report a problem with a drain. Looking after your nature strip. Place a shipping container on Council land.

Nature strips are part of our urban environment. They also contain underground pipes or cabling for electricity, gas, water and the internet. Nature strips are owned by Council and are public land. You can landscape your nature strip as long as you follow the guidelines.
If you want to place a temporary shipping container on your land, or over a Council footpath, nature strip or road, you are required to obtain a permit.
The stormwater drain network is a network of pipes and pits that are owned by Council, Melbourne Water and private bodies. Find out who to contact depending on the issue and the drain in question.
