Western Port Green Wedge Management Plan update
I would like to advise you of progress on the Casey Western Port Green Wedge Management Plan. The view of the Governments is not for widespread subdivision.
However, due to the growth in the equine industry (as result of the upgrade of the Cranbourne Racecourse Training Facility and potential for a regional equestrian facility to locate within the Green Wedge), Council believe there is a need to further investigate the possibility of ‘limited’ subdivision in the Casey Western Port Green Wedge. Before this direction can be placed in the final Management Plan, Council has sort support from both the State Government and the State Opposition for ‘limited subdivision’ within the Green Wedge to support the growth of the equine industry.
Once a formal position is received from the State Government and State Opposition in regard to ‘limited’ equine industry subdivision, Council Officers anticipate reporting the Casey Western Port Green Wedge Management Plan to Council for a decision in early 2019.
I understand that this has been a lengthy and complicated process and appreciate the community’s patience on this matter. Updates on the draft Casey Western Port Plan are available on the Council’s website.
Smiths Lane construction well underway
Stage 1 works: Construction of Smiths Lane from Browns Road to North Road, Cranbourne South is currently well underway and expected to be completed by early 2019. The total cost of the civil contract works is approximately $3.5m. The works include sealing of approximately 2.6 kilometres of road and the construction of a roundabout at the intersection with Scott Road. These works include improved road safety measures includes lighting upgrades, safe walking trails and installation of guard rails. The works have been partly funded by a Special Charge Scheme where abutting residents contribute towards the cost of the works.
Stage 2 works: Construction of a roundabout at the intersection with North Road. Construction of these works are planned to commence in early 2019.
Stage 3 works: Construction of Smiths Lane from North Road to Baxter Tooradin Road, Pearcedale. This will continue following completion of Stage 1 and 2 works.
Warneet Motor Yacht Club renovation
It is great to see the Warneet Motor Yacht Club renovations coming together. It promises to be one of the best community facilities in the region.
It is something locals have been looking forward to as many different groups will be using the club for many different activities and will be a great asset all the local community can use.
Saving Oakwood Riding School
I’m working with Council Officers and Councillors to save the best riding school in the south east of Melbourne situated in Clyde North.
We are working with the State Government to achieve a site-specific rezoning to alleviate the very high rates the riding school accrues by being situated at the present time in the Urban Growth Zone. To remain in the UGZ would mean the school would not have a long-term future.
Many thousands of people involved in the racing and equestrian industry learnt to ride and develop equine skills at this tremendous facility, which is a not-for-profit organisation.
We congratulate all staff, students, parents and coaches of the Oakwood Riding School, particularly Sharyn Wyatt the Manager for the outstanding work they do in our biggest industry.
