Casey Digital Histories Project
The Casey Digital Histories Project was the community arts element undertaken by Council as part of the 2008 Winter Arts Program. This collection of oral histories aims to capture and preserve for future generations the fascinating life experiences, memories and reflections of a diverse group of older residents in the Casey community. Fifteen people over the age of 60, residing throughout Casey, were interviewed and asked a range of questions about their lives; their strongest childhood memories, the games they played as children, the family they grew up with and the changes they’ve seen in their lifetime.
As a result of the success of this project, Casey commissioned filmmakers to create a feature length film titled Living Memories – Casey Residents Reflect including excerpts of all participants’ interviews. The film was launched at a premiere screening at the Cranbourne Community Theatre in February 2009, with proud friends and family in attendance and extensive media coverage received in local newspapers.
