Community Consultation Program
Home Visits
The City of Casey, in conjunction with the EPA, has been visiting some homes in Brookland Greens Estate to talk to residents and provide information packs on the closed Stevensons Road landfill and to offer in-home testing for the presence of methane gas.
Approximately 130 homes closest to the perimeter of the landfill were visited on the evenings of Wednesday (16 July) and Thursday (17 July) this week. All homes tested were given the all clear.
It is important to note that the level of emissions coming from the closed landfill hasn’t suddenly changed. What has changed, and why our teams have visited homes, is the EPA's new position on acceptable methane gas levels in residential areas which was suddenly, and significantly, reduced from 2.5% to 1%, last week by the EPA.
Community Information Day
Brookland Greens residents are invited to a drop-in community information day to find out more about Council’s program of restorative works at the Stevensons Road closed landfill, including some of the planned activities to take place between July and September 2008.
