School Education at Myuna Farm

Education Program for Grade Prep to Grade Two
Experience real farm life at Myuna Farm. The farm is a fun learning environment where students will participate in a range of hands-on activities. Each program can be tailored to meet your specific needs.
The sessions that can be included in the program are as follows:
Farm School
Facilitated by: Farm Staff, with school staff to supervise.
Location: Pioneer Theatre - 100 seat theatre with 2m * 2m screen
Content:
- 15 minute short film - Teachers choice of the following:
Milk – Shows the process of milk production. Including why the cow produces milk, how the farmer milk their cows, how it is then pasteurised and homogenised before being put into containers ready for sale.
Bread – Shows how bread is made. Including the growing and harvesting of wheat, the milling of wheat into flour, then the baking of bread in factories, bakeries and at home.
Rice – Shows how rice is grown. Including land preparation, irrigation, sowing seeds, harvesting the crop and the variety of rice products in the supermarkets.
Honey – Shows how bees make honey. Including why they make honey, how they do it, the different roles each bee has in the process, and how apiarists farm their bees.
Apples – Shows how apple grow. Including what they need to grow, how they are harvested, shows them sold at market and also the process that turns them into juice, cider or vinegar
- 15 minute overview and discussion of basic farming practices and farm animals
Farm Show
Facilitated by: Farm Staff, with school staff to supervise.
Location: Pioneer Theatre - 100 seat theatre
Content:
- Joey Davis- the famous talking cockatoo show
- Goat milking. Kids get to have a go at milking the goat.
Animal Nursery
Facilitated by: School Staff to supervise students whilst in the nursery
Content:
- Pat and interact with animals such as guinea pigs, rabbits, lambs, goats.
Train ride to the Wetlands
Facilitated by: Farm staff. School staff to accompany students on train ride and walk through the wetlands.
Content:
- Train ride to and from wetlands
- Feeding ducks and geese at wetlands
Walk and talk on boardwalk around wetlands
Feed Trail
Facilitated by: School staff to accompany students on feed trail – briefed by farm staff.
Content:
- Feeding animal throughout Farm paddocks such as alpacas, cattle, buffalo, goats, emus
Environmental
* This program is currently under development, however topics may be included if important to school curriculum
Facilitated by: Farm Staff or local students with school staff to supervise.
Content:
- A range of activities that can be tailored to your requirements. Including produce gardening, solar power, waste wise, habitat and water wise.
Each session runs for 30 minutes and will be scheduled to accommodate your group’s needs
Costs
- School students: $6.50 (GST free)
- Other groups are $7.50 per child (includes GST)
- Adults: FREE (when ratio of adults to students is less than 1-5)
- Additional adults: $5.50 each
- Carers: FREE
