Community Transport Service

What is Community Transport?

The City of Casey’s Community Transport service aims to;

  • Enhance the capacity of transport disadvantaged Casey residents to access their local support services and participate equitably with other Casey residents in community life.
  • Assist in reducing social isolation of at risk residents by increasing access to the local community.

Who can access this service?

The Community Transport buses are available for use by not for profit, incorporated community groups or associations for the benefit of local City of Casey residents at risk of social isolation. These groups must provide evidence that they meet the eligibility criteria and provide information about the purpose of the bus hire. Priority of access will be given to groups targeting socially isolated people that are:

  • from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (CALD)
  • from Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds
  • with a disability and their carers
  • with dementia and their carers
  • financially disadvantaged.

What Types of Vehicles are available?

Council has a number of 12 seat mini buses available, some with wheelchair hoists. All vehicles have automatic transmissions and economical diesel engines. These vehicles must be driven by someone who has a full Australian drivers licence. A number of larger vehicles are in the fleet however these are not available as self-drive and may only be used with a council driver.

(Subject to availability additional fee apply).

Is there a cost to hire these buses?

A hire fee and charges apply to all bookings, these charges vary depending on the type of vehicle, type of group or association, the length of hire and the distances travelled.

What if there is no-one in my group able to drive?

If your group has no one with a valid licence to drive, it may be possible to organise a volunteer or paid staff driver to assist you on your day of hire. Please talk to a member of the Community Transport Team to find out if a driver is available.
