Planning Application Checklists

Lodging a complete planning application will reduce assessment delays

Council is seeking to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of its planning permit service. It has found that one of the major contributing factors to delays in assessing planning applications is that the application is incomplete when originally lodged by the applicant.

This incompleteness can relate to such matters as:

These incomplete applications cause frustration both for the applicant in delaying the assessment of the proposal and Council Officers as they are obliged to defer further work on the application until it is complete.

In an effort to address the issue, Council encourages applicants to discuss their application with a Council planner prior to lodging the application. In addition, Council has prepared a Checklist for the major categories of uses and developments which are received by Council.

Where applicable, the Checklist is required to be completed by the applicant when the application is lodged at one of the Council’s Customer Service Centres. Where the application is sent through the mail, a Council planner will review the Checklist.

Should the required details on the Checklist not be provided, Council will return the application and any accompanying documents to the applicant and not formally register the application until the details have been provided.

It should be stressed that the Checklist represents statutory information required for lodgment of the application. It does not represent an assessment of the application or replace the need for further information that may be sought from the applicant following the preliminary assessment of the application.

Should you have any queries about this process or wish to discuss the proposal before lodging the application, please do not hesitate to contact a City of Casey Planning Officer.
