Double the talent at the Civic Centre Art Space: Issued 12 September 2012
MEDIA RELEASE: 12 September 2012
The City of Casey is showcasing two exhibitions at the Civic Centre Art Space until Sunday 30 September.
Pawtraits by Kerry Martin is a display of limited edition photography of animals sheltered at the Pearcedale RSPCA while they waited for their ‘forever’ homes.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Sam Aziz said Pawtraits shares Kerry’s love of pets, celebrates the bond between people and animals while reflecting the work of the RSPCA.
‘Kerry’s images are inspired by her desire to raise awareness of local animal shelters and the hard work that goes on behind the scenes by the RSCPA’s dedicated staff and volunteers.
‘Each of the Pawtraits collection is accompanied by the animal’s story, including a description of their personality and temperament. Viewers will be relieved to discover all the featured animals have found new homes’.
Exhibiting at the same time, Fabric Textiles by Nola Sterling combines various sewing disciplines and styles in her work to create intricate and beautiful textile pieces in a stunning range of colours and textures.
‘Nola’s unique exhibition demonstrates the creative potential of craft-based mediums,’ said Cr Aziz.
Nola's interests are broad and include Japanese fabric folding and sashiko, machine embroidery, quilting and free-style fabric making.
Nola has studied with accomplished textile artists from Japan and translates her experiences into works of art, across a variety of techniques from traditional to self discovered.
Cr Aziz, said this exhibition like those before it, is a great display of the artistic talent that exists in and around the Casey community.
‘The Civic Centre Art Space offers residents a chance to view artworks by these talented local and regional artists and to share in their skills and experiences’, said Cr Aziz.
