The City of Casey is currently seeking expressions of interest from community groups or clubs wishing to deliver a free community event in their local area on Australia Day, Saturday 26 January 2013.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Sam Aziz said ‘Australia Day is a time for people across Australia to gather together and celebrate what’s great about our fine country.
‘It’s an opportunity to celebrate with family, friends and the wider community and the local events held throughout Casey serve to bring people together,’ Cr Aziz said.
Thousands of people attend Australia Day events in the City of Casey every year, and, each year; the City of Casey supports community groups planning to host their own events to celebrate.
In 2013, the City of Casey is looking to support up to five community events to the maximum value of $5,000 each.
In order to be eligible to receive event funding, the following criteria apply. The Australia Day event must be:
- held within the City of Casey on Saturday 26 January 2013
- FREE to everyone
- open to all Casey residents
- an alcohol-free and smoke-free event
- of cultural significance
- able to cater for attendance numbers of over 500 people, and
- organised and conducted by a community group/club located within the City of Casey.

Applications close 5 pm, Friday 31 August 2012. No late expressions of interest will be considered.
Successful applicants will be supported by Council officers but are expected to manage all aspects of their Australia Day event, including but not limited to first aid, entertainment, stallholders and equipment hire such as generators and toilets.
Council officers will support organisers through the event approval process and with marketing assistance.
