Mayor thanks dedicated radio volunteers: Issued 3 July 2012
MEDIA RELEASE: 3 July 2012
Casey Radio 97.7FM, the community radio station of Melbourne’s south east, recently held a recognition dinner at the City of Casey’s Council Chamber to thank its team of volunteers.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Sam Aziz said ‘Services such as Casey Radio are crucial for communicating with our culturally diverse community.
‘This dinner focussed on recognising those volunteers who put in the hard yards – day in and day out – to make sure this essential service is able to continue.
‘Without volunteers, not-for-profit organisations like Casey Radio would really struggle’.
Casey Radio covers community news and sports, caters to a wide range of music tastes, and presents a variety of ethnic programs for the people of Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs – an area with a population of about 300,000.
‘Casey Radio is a fantastic resource for new residents especially those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds to learn more about what is happening in their own communities and the city in general’, Cr Aziz said.
‘The City of Casey values the contribution of our volunteers, and the role that they play in community strengthening and enhancing community connectedness.
‘We are incredibly grateful for their involvement in the life of our city’.
