School holiday fun at the Casey Safety Village: Issued 28 June 2012
MEDIA RELEASE: 28 June 2012
Want to have a fun day out these school holidays while teaching your children valuable road safety skills?
Visit the Casey Safety Village and join in their special day programs on Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 July from 10am until 2pm.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Sam Aziz said a visit to the Safety Village is not only a fun day out for children up to 12 years of age, but also teaches young people about important road safety skills.
‘It is so important to teach our young people how to be safe around roads whether they are walking, riding or simply climbing in and out of a car, they need to be aware of their surroundings’.
Activities included in the July school holiday day programs will include:
- Riding around the specialised road circuit
- Caseyville - the community safety game
- CFA fire safety sessions
- Indoor activities
- Surprise visits from Tortoise (SafeStart Mascot), Lottie (School Crossing Mascot) and other guests
- Visit by Victoria Police and/or CFA (depending on availability)
A limited number of bikes and helmets are available to borrow at the venue so participants are encouraged to bring their own.
Cr Aziz said the programs aimed to increase bicycle, road and fire safety awareness for children up to 12 years of age and all children attending must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times.
‘The Casey Safety Village, which contains the Casey Road Safety Education Centre (CRSEC) and CFA Learning Centre, plays an important role in educating the community about road safety, in a safe, fun, controlled and positive learning environment’.
