Hallam gains new Family and Children's Centre: Issued 27 June 2012
MEDIA RELEASE: 27 June 2012
Hallam families will benefit from the opening of a new multipurpose facility, the Hallam Family and Children’s Centre, which was officially opened by City of Casey Mayor Cr Sam Aziz on Saturday 16 June 2012.
Cr Aziz said at the opening of the $1.4 million centre ‘This excellent facility brings together, under the one roof, a range of services for young families.
‘In Casey, 8.8 per cent of our population is aged 0 – 4 years. Council is working hard to ensure the necessary infrastructure and services are in place to support Casey’s children.
‘This is the second family and children’s centre we have opened in Casey this month’.
The new Hallam Family and Children’s Centre includes:
- a kindergarten playroom;
- a community room; and
- Maternal and Child Health consulting rooms.
New parents will be able to use the community room for information sessions and playgroups and it will also be available for members of the community to book.
‘Through clustering children’s services in the one purpose-built centre, Council is making it easier for parents and families to build relationships with maternal and child health nurses, kindergarten teachers and each other’, Cr Aziz said.
‘These stronger relationships will make it easier for families and children to progress seamlessly from one service to the next’.
In Council’s 2012/2013 budget, funding has increased for Maternal and Child Health services – resulting in provision of up to 2,000 additional appointments across the municipality.
‘With new facilities such as this one, we now have the space to offer more services for local children to ensure they get the best start in life’, Cr Aziz said.
