Discover the key to successful community events: Issued 14 June 2012
MEDIA RELEASE: 14 June 2012
The City of Casey is offering people organising community events a fantastic opportunity to learn from experts about what makes a successful event at a free information session.
The free Event Forum will be run twice on Wednesday 20 June with keynote presenters at each session:
- Kristie Walker: specialises in developing and strengthening strategies, structure and support for festivals and public events; and
- Ros Abercrombie: focuses on event conception and direction with an emphasis on presenting innovative and accessible community festivals.
The pair have been involved in a number of successful festivals including the Meredith Music Festival, High Vibes Festival, Golden Plains Festival, Spring Fling Street Festival, Moomba Festival, Taste Festival, Chinese New Year, Moonee Valley Festival, Midsumma Festival and the Black Saturday Anniversary events.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Sam Aziz said the Event Forum was a must for local community event organisers who want to learn about the importance of thorough planning for events and to get some tips about the best methods to use to get an event off the ground.
‘Each year Council hosts two free Event Forums to assist people planning community events and to provide them with an opportunity to network with other event organisers and ask questions of the staff in Council’s Events team.
‘It is part of Council’s commitment to helping community groups conduct safe and successful events and to provide them with access to expert and experienced guest speakers’.
