What's it all about?

In March 2006, twenty-four new Emerging Leaders participants came together for the first time.  We quickly established that we are a group of very diverse professionals, from councils all across Victoria.  It was a challenge just to meet in the one location!

On the second day of our program we were given the project which we would focus on for the rest of the year: Local Government in 2020.  What should it look like? What are the key challenges?

Not only did the topic seem huge; there was the added challenge of trying to co-ordinate and organise the views of twenty-four very diverse people. 

Over the months, the project took shape; mentors, guest speakers, and leaders from within government and industry were quizzed, and we eventually established it wasn’t all about the topic – one of the hardest challenges was working out how to work together as a team, and to pull together the project.

In this age of improving technology and sustainability, we thought a website would be the best way to publish our project.  It is interactive and encompasses the outcomes of our project.  The format allows you to delve into the topic in depth or to gain a summary view.  It also tells you a little about us, what we’ve learnt and the LGPro program.
