Olympic Champion Kieren Perkins waved the chequered flag to send thousands of gathered motorcyclists on their journey to Phillip Island at the 13th annual MRA Cranbourne GP Run on Saturday 15 October 2011.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Shar Balmes said ‘The MRA Cranbourne GP Run is one of the largest and most exciting group motorcycle rides in Victoria and it was fantastic to have Kieren Perkins wave the chequered flag to send the gathered motorcyclists on their journey to Phillip Island.
‘It was incredible to see so many people enjoying the event; riders enjoyed catching up with friends and showing off their prized motorbikes, families participated in the free activities and everyone was in awe of motorbike enthusiast, Kieren Perkins, who waved off the riders and couldn’t wait to join the ride himself!’.
Prior to the wave-off, the crowd was treated to a performance of the National Anthem by local resident, Madison Pritchett, and families also enjoyed the activities and entertainment on offer which continued to be popular well after the bikes had departed.
MC for the event and Chairperson of the MRA Cranbourne GP Run Advisory Committee Cr Wayne Smith said ‘Each year, with the addition of new activities and entertainment, the MRA Cranbourne GP Run continues to grow in popularity.’ Cr Balmes added, ‘On behalf of the City of Casey, I’d like to extend my thanks and appreciation to the event supporters and MRA Cranbourne GP Run Advisory Committee for their efforts in delivering such an outstanding event.’
