Michael Tuck to wave-off riders at MRA Cranbourne GP Run
Australian Rules legend and City of Casey local, Michael Tuck, will wave the chequered flag and send thousands of motorcycle riders on their journey to Phillip Island, at this year’s MRA Cranbourne GP Run to be held this Saturday 17 October 2009.
Tuck is the VFL / AFL games record holder with 426 games and captained Hawthorn from 1986 until his retirement in 1991. He played in a total of seven VFL / AFL premierships with Hawthorn, captaining the club for four of them.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Geoff Ablett is encouraging all Casey residents to get along to this fantastic family event, where there will be food stalls, roving performers, face painters and children’s activities to make it a great free morning of entertainment.
The MRA GP Run is on Saturday 17 October 2009 in High Street Cranbourne. The event starts at 8.15 am with the wave-off at 10 am in High Street, Cranbourne.
The 2009 MRA Cranbourne GP Run is proudly supported by the Motorcycle Riders Association Australia (MRA), Victoria Police, Star News Group and Cranbourne Chamber of Commerce.

This is a free event - no cost, no registration.
Parking is available at the Cranbourne Racing Centre (via Grant Street), at the Centro Shopping Centre and in the side streets around the event.
The upcoming MRA Cranbourne GP Run on Saturday 17 October 2009 is nationally recognised as a fantastic energy-filled day out for motorbike enthusiasts… but did you know there are also heaps of fun activities for families too?
City of Casey Mayor Cr Geoff Ablett is encouraging families to head to the Cranbourne town centre early. From 8.15 am there will be plenty of entertainment to keep the whole family amused. The Sandwizard activity centre, face painting, go-karts, a car display and Casey’s Vibe youth bus will keep everyone entertained, not to mention the celebrity wave-off and all the excitement and anticipation as thousands of motorcyclists get ready to travel en-masse to Phillip Island!
The pace picks up for the highlight of the day at 10 am, when a soon-to-be-announced celebrity waves off thousands of gathered motorcyclists for their journey en-masse from the main street of Cranbourne to the Grand Prix track at Phillip Island.
Cr Ablett is excited to be attending this year’s event and encourages all the families in the area to attend.
‘For the first time this year, all of the family activities have been extended, so they will be offered until 11 am, providing families with something to do after the excitement of the wave-off’, said Cr Ablett.
Free family-friendly activities available on the day include:
- The Sandwizard activity centre, a popular activity for parents and children to create imaginative sand art to keep.
- Face painting, for children to transform into their favourite animal or fairytale character.
- Le Mans Go-Karts, with a new inflatable racing track with electric powered go karts for children aged 3–12 years.
- Roving performers, with some of Australia’s premier character acts.
- Bay Rodders Car Club Display, featuring amazing Hot Rods.
- Casey’s Seasonal Vibe bus with members of Council’s Youth Services team to provide young people with access to important information and resources.
- CFA Cranbourne Fire Truck, where children can meet some local fire-fighting heroes.
City of Casey Mayfield Ward Cr Kevin Bradford, Chairperson of the MRA Cranbourne GP Run Organising Committee, is also encouraging Casey residents to flock to Cranbourne for one of the most exciting events on the Casey events calendar.
‘There are so many free activities on offer this year in addition to the motorcycles which make the MRA Cranbourne GP Run a superb day of family entertainment’, said Cr Bradford.
