Twitter is a web-based group messaging service.

The City of Casey has an account on Twitter – @CityOfCasey – and we invite you to follow us.

What is @CityOfCasey?

@CityOfCasey is produced by the City of Casey's Communications Department.

Why is the City of Casey using Twitter?

Our aim is to open another communication channel with the City of Casey, to highlight news and upcoming events.

  • Our Twitter channel supplements the information we publish on our website
  • We can remind you of important events and alert you to late-breaking news
  • We can link to interesting and useful information about the City of Casey published by other people
  • We can better communicate with those using mobile devices

But we’re also aware of the changing nature of communication on the internet and our use of this channel will be influenced by your participation and response to it.

Will the City of Casey respond to my replies or direct messages?

Yes, we will reply as quickly as possible.

But please note:

  • we monitor the channel during business hours only; and
  • we consider a Twitter conversation to be similar to a telephone conversation.

You should contact the City of Casey by email or in writing if you have:

  • a formal customer service request, comment or enquiry
  • a response to an item published for public comment

‘Correspondence’ means communications written, faxed or emailed that includes your proper name and address. Direct messages from Twitter are not considered as correspondence.

I do not want the City of Casey following me

By default, when you follow the City of Casey on Twitter, Council's Twitter account will automatically follow you. This is done so that you can send us direct messages (that is, a private message) via Twitter. Updates sent using any of the methods described above are not public: only author and recipient can view direct messages.

If @CityOfCasey is following you and you’d rather we didn’t, please feel free to block us.

Be aware that Twitter is a public space on the internet and all interaction is publicly viewable and searchable over time and may be archived outside of Twitter, even if it has been deleted from a Twitter account.

If you want to keep your Twitter channel private, you can protect your updates.

Shortened URLs use csy.co

From July 21, 2010, the abbreviated website address used within tweets will use the URL csy.co - an abbeviation of Casey Council.

Twitter accounts that are spam related or offensive

As the City of Casey allows anyone to follow its Twitter feed, we will on occasion have followers whose accounts are clearly set up to distribute spam or offensive material.

The City of Casey will do its best to block these accounts from following us on Twitter, however, as the number of followers grows, this may not be possible to do. If you do find one of our followers offensive, please  send us a direct message on Twitter or email website@casey.vic.gov.au and let us know.

The City of Casey's Twitter account is set to automatically follow anyone who follows us. The City of Casey does not endorse any Twitter account that it follows.
