EmailThe City of Casey has led the way in Victoria in the development of Family Resource Centres (FRC). FRCs are an exciting concept which sees services for children and families operating from a central point in the community. It is based on the "hub and spoke" model which offers centralised services in the community in addition to services already provided for children and families in the local community.
FRCs are designed to provide a variety of child and family focussed services including maternal and child health, preschools, and community rooms for groups such as playgroups or for training purposes.
It is anticipated that over time a diversity of programs and services will operate from FRCs. The centres also offer consulting suites for various allied health professionals (e.g. psychologists, speech therapists, family planning, counselling services, parent education, immunisation etc).
FRC provide a point of focus for new services interested in moving to Casey or developing a new service in the municipality. Many services find venue set up costs prohibitive, and the co-location model of FRC reduces some of these issues. Co-location of services promotes collaboration between services and therefore more seamless service delivery to residents.
One of the key issues faced by Casey residents is the difficulty accessing transport.
FRCs are and will be conveniently located to transport and other community facilities, resulting in ease of access to services, as families go about their usual business (e.g. shopping, school drop off etc).
These hubs, where families can access a range of services that support children and families have been planned across 3 key localities in Casey, with their roll out reflecting the relative growth in each geographic area of the municipality.
