The City of Casey has upgraded street lights throughout the municipality in a move that reduces energy use and associated costs.
Approximately 12,000 mercury vapour lights were replaced with energy efficient LED street lights.
- This is the largest environmentally sustainable project ever undertaken by Council and reduces the associated street lighting energy use by 77 per cent each year.
- It also reduces Council’s street lighting greenhouse gas emissions by around 75,100 tonnes over the 20-year life of the assets.
- The City of Casey currently spends $4.6 million on street lighting and anticipates that the project will save around $700,000 annually in street lighting costs.
The City of Casey has contributed $4.5 million towards the street lighting replacement program and received funding of $1.3 million from the Australian Government.
