Edwin Flack Games
The exchange history includes the 2004 Connolly Games when Casey sent a contingent of 89 over to Springfield and the 2008 Connolly Games which involved a Casey contingent of 34 young athletes and support personnel travelling to the USA.
The Edwin Flack Games, named after Australia’s first Olympic champion, were held in 2000, 2006 in Casey.
The Games are a reciprocal sporting and cultural exchange with Casey’s sister city, Springfield, Ohio USA. A wide variety of sports have been contested in past Games including soccer, basketball, volleyball, tennis, golf and athletics.
Competitors in the Games are non-professional athletes from Years 10, 11 and 12 aged 16 - 18 who either live in the City of Casey or are a member of a sporting organisation that is based in the City of Casey at the time of the exchange.
In 2006, Springfield sent a contingent to participate in the Edwin Flack Games which were hosted by the City of Casey and involved over 150 young people. This followed from the first exchange in 2000 where competitors competed in over 8 sports, coinciding with the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
