A number of local residents have been recognised for their hard work and dedication in the Casey of Casey at the 2017 Casey Volunteer Awards on Friday, 12 May.

Well-rounded volunteer Roman Nowak was presented the 2017 Casey Individual Volunteer Award for his different roles in Casey.

Mr Nowak is an Independent Person with the Youth Referral Program and on call 24/7. In the last year, Mr Nowak has attended 69 call outs to police stations throughout Casey to support young, vulnerable people who otherwise may have had nobody.

He also volunteers three days a week with The Salvation Army, Cranbourne where he coordinates an emergency relief service for individuals and families, and is second in charge of this organisation.

The Casey Volunteer Awards recognise and honour those individuals, groups and organisations that have contributed significantly to the Casey community or have had a positive impact on the quality of life for residents of the City of Casey through their volunteering efforts.

Casey Mayor Sam Aziz said there is no shortage of people willing to lend a hand in Casey.

“Thousands of people volunteer their time and provide essential services to the whole community.

“I believe that the volunteers we have in Casey are some of the best, and I would like to congratulate all the nominees and winners on being recognised for their invaluable contribution to the City of Casey.

“It gives me great pleasure to acknowledge your generosity in giving your time and effort for the benefit of others to make our community such a great place to live,” Cr Aziz said.
