Earlier this year, the City of Casey called on the community to help provide input into naming the new integrated community centre and town square currently being built in the Selandra Rise estate, Clyde North.

Council received some great suggestions from the community, with the majority of names submitted reflecting on the location of the precinct.

Based on the community’s sentiment, Council is delighted to reveal the official name - Selandra Community Hub and Selandra Square.

Set to open in October 2017, the Selandra Community Hub will provide facilities and spaces for community service organisations to deliver key services and for community groups to come together to participate and connect.  This ecologically sustainably designed facility incorporates a variety of multipurpose spaces including flexible halls, meeting rooms and consulting suites of varying sizes, a large foyer, exhibition space and a commercial kitchen.

Selandra Square will provide residents with an accessible and vibrant community precinct, creating connectivity between facilities and providing for a range of outdoor community activities and events. A partnership with RMIT will provide an innovative and exciting digital public artwork in the Square. The artwork will respond to different types of touch and will express itself through light, vibration and sound.

The Community Hub is an integrated multipurpose community facility that aims to:

  • Offer a focal point for community interaction.
  • Be a place where people can build relationships and a community identity.
  • Be a place where residents can meet and carry out activities.
  • Be a place that strengthens the life of the community
  • Be a place where residents can access a range of activities, programs and services.

Importantly, this facility can co-locate community service organisations to offer much needed services to the Cranbourne East, Clyde North and surrounding communities.
