City of Casey Mayor Cr Sam Aziz encouraged residents to nominate someone they think is worthy of recognition for all that they do.
“When our nation celebrates Australia Day each year, we are proud to acknowledge the achievements and contributions of our amazing local citizens who help make Casey such a wonderful place to live,” he said.
“I encourage all residents to think about the people and groups who inspire them through their achievements, dedication and passion, whether that be in a professional or volunteer capacity. This could be in any field including sport, arts, humanities or community service for example.
“Casey has so many amazing people and community groups doing amazing things, so use this opportunity to shine a light on someone you know is worthy of recognition by submitting a nomination.”
2017 Casey Citizen of the Year Anne McGill said just being nominated for an award was an honour.
“Although under no obligation, I have tried to attend most functions to which I have been invited,” she said.
“This year has certainly widened my interest and knowledge of the Casey community and how much work and involvement there is between the Council, staff and community groups.
“My appreciation of living in such a vibrant, forward thinking community has certainly been realised and the consideration given to the many volunteers shows that it is also a very caring environment.”
Nominations close on Monday 30 October 2017 at 4.00 pm. For further details, eligibility criteria and to submit a nomination visit the Casey Australia Day Awards webpage.
