Community Recognition / Awards
The City of Casey has identified the importance of recognising the achievements of members of its community through the following award/recognition programs:
Part of Casey's Australia Day celebration is the announcement of the Citizen Award which pays tribute to local groups and individuals who have made the most outstanding personal achievement and/or significant contribution to the community. Any individual or organisation can nominate for a Casey Australia Day Award.

- Anne Atkin – Casey Citizen of the Year
- Sarah Dunstan – Casey Young Citizen of the Year
- Jim Carson – Casey Senior Citizen of the Year
- Karen Dawson – Casey Sportsperson of the Year
- No nominations were received in this category in 2013 – Casey Non-Resident of the Year
Casey Community Event/Activity of the Year – 2012 Award
- “150 Years of Literary Achievement” – Berwick Mechanics Institute & Free Library Inc.
Casey Community Fundraising Event/Activity of the Year – 2012 Awards
- “Fundraiser for Joan” – Devon Meadows Primary School
The Casey Volunteer Awards recognise and honour those individuals who have contributed to the development of the Casey community, or have had a positive impact on the quality of life of City of Casey residents through their volunteering efforts.
2012 recipients:
- Casey Community Flood Support Group – Casey Volunteer Group Award
- Balla Balla Volunteer Program – Balla Balla Community Centre Inc – Casey Volunteer Organisation Award
- Mladen Krsman – Casey Young Volunteer Award
- Rosemary Savage & Keith Savage – Casey Volunteer Pair Award
Three Individual Casey Volunteer Award recipients:
- Nyachan Guandong – Volunteer services to the Sudanese community in Casey Kim Hasan – Volunteer services to the Turkish community in Casey
- Melanie Lindsay – Volunteer services to the All Abilities sporting community in Casey
- Les Smith – Volunteering services to his community – Junction Village
The Casey Business Awards is an opportunity to recognise excellence and support our thriving business community. These Awards are a chance to put our local success stories up in lights and showcase the great work being done right here in our own backyard.

Lindsay King Arts Initiative Awards
The Lindsay King Arts Initiative Award is Casey’s most prestigious award for the arts, recognising local residents whose initiatives have made a significant contribution to the arts in Casey.
Established in 2007, the award was named in memory of Cranbourne resident, Lindsay King, whose vigorous commitment to the arts and passion for local history, tourism and culture made a positive impact on the arts community in Casey.
Lindsay King Arts Initiative Award Winners 2012:
- Anne Atkin (for a significant contribution to the development of visual arts and crafts)
- Jean Herriot (for a significant contribution to the development of literary and performing arts)
World Environment Day Volunteer Recognition Function
The City of Casey's World Environment Day function recognises environmental volunteers who are dedicated to protecting and preserving the City's many significant natural assets through a function held at the Civic Centre.
The Healthy Choice Award is a local award scheme, operated by the City of Casey that provides recognition to food vendors who provide healthy choices at community events.
Awards and Recognition for Youth
Council regularly recognises young people throughout the City of Casey who have achieved successes or dedicated their time to the benefit of others through a variety of awards during the year.
Global Friendships Recognition
These awards recognise and honour community members who have made a significant contribution towards enhancing global relations and have displayed outstanding individual service to the cause of global friendships. This contribution may have been through: continued service on voluntary global friendship committees; supporting sister city relationships; initiating sister city events in Casey; promoting global friendship to the wider community; or through representing Casey, and Australia, on a global platform.
