SubscribeThe City of Casey has identified the importance of recognising the achievements of members of its community.
City of Casey Citizens of the Year Awards
Part of Australia Day celebration is the announcement of the Citizen Award which pays tribute to local individuals and groups who have made the most outstanding personal achievement and/or significant contribution to the community. Any individual or organisation can make a nomination.
These awards recognise those who have shown a willingness to lend a helping hand, or a concern for the environment or perhaps had a participation in sport, the arts or cultural diversity. It is for those who know the importance of strong community values and support systems and have a keen sense that we have our own contribution to make on the world stage. They share the aspirations of Australians as a whole in terms of tolerance, democracy, equity and equality of opportunity. These key factors should form the basis for the nominations for all the awards and will be considered in the selection process.
Any individual nominated for an award must be an Australian Citizen.
Individual categories are Citizen, Young Citizen, Senior Citizen and Non-resident of the Year.
The City of Casey also recognises, that some people who may not reside in the municipality, may nevertheless have contributed greatly to the Casey Community either through achievement in service for others or enrichment of others through their efforts. Therefore, the City of Casey has a Non-resident of the Year Award given on Australia Day to one such person in recognition of their contribution.
It is recognised that community groups and organisations contribute to the Casey Community by enriching us with their events. Therefore, Council provides its Community Event of the Year Award, which is given out on Australia Day to the organisation who it was deemed, held the most outstanding community event during the previous year.
The criteria for these awards are set in accordance with the guidelines established by the National Australia Day Committee.
A selection panel made up of community representatives and the Mayor assess the applications for the awards. Council officers may offer advice but do not take part in the selection process.
Council is delighted to receive nominations for these awards highlighting the many wonderful achievements of both individuals and organisations within our City.
The Casey Volunteer Awards recognise and honour those individuals who have contributed to the development of the Casey community, or have had a positive impact on the quality of life of City of Casey residents through their volunteering efforts.
The awards aim to:
- Acknowledge and recognise the voluntary achievements of individuals and groups who contribute to building and strengthening the Casey community, and who are a factor in increasing the quality of life of residents in the municipality.
- Support the work of community volunteers, organisations and groups.
- Promote and encourage residents to volunteer, participate and contribute to the community.
- Celebrate, promote and encourage volunteering.
- Bring attention to the many and varied organisations in the community that rely on volunteers.
